Once a small monk was assigned the work of sweeping the yard every day. When the autumn comes, leaves fall and scatter around, making the cleaning-up very difficult. The monk was quite upset. Another monk came, suggesting him to shake off the leaves at dusk and sweep them away altogether, thus saving the next day’s trouble. Delighted, the small monk did as was advised. Sure enough, a lot of leaves were down. As he was carrying out his duty, he couldn’t help fancying a leisure day ahead once he was done with today’s work. Well, what he saw the next morning astonished him—there were still leaves flying about on the ground!

An old monk came by at that time, telling him “No matter how hard you shake the tree to make leaves fall, there’ll always be more coming down when you are not watching. You just cannot finish all the work today.”

The same wisdom applies as well in our life on a larger scale. Life is never a constant. We may foresee tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, but you can never say for sure about forever. Sometimes we have to, or should, adopt a relaxed life attitude, solving problems one at a time. After all, some leaves are doomed to fall only tomorrow.
Gosh, How careless I am!

yesterday, I posted the same article as this post which is about 1 hour earlier than mine.
